[ okay FINE instead of my one sad mem let's go on a little adventure
the latest rift that sweet traumaridden dion gets trapped in is... wet. he emerges softly upon the wet grass of a mountainous area, where all the cliff-faces seems smoothed slightly by weather and the waterfalls that drive over the stones.
it would be lovely and perhaps familiar to the area around zora's domain, but much darker—the clouds overhead are oppressively thick. the rain comes down in what isn't an overwhelming, but constant storm. there are towers ahead, along with a silver-hewn bridge and blue lanterns in the distance.
but okay, he doesn't mind the rain much, enjoying the feeling of earth beneath his boots and the sight of the night sky, clouded over though it may be.
and as he approaches what turns out to be some guard towers, a memory plays out. you get the japanese version because i like it better, up through their first conversation. anyway, it's not a long moment—more of an introduction than anything else—but despite the dour weather he leaves it with a clear set of feelings: anticipation. a little anxiety. moreso than that, hope—excitement! the sort of excitement that rolls along and builds and builds and builds in on itself.
[ SIDON COME BACK THE LIZALFOS HAVE ELECTRIC ARROWS!!!
dion is probably handling this much like by doing his best to run, getting electrocuted and dropping his weapons, and hiding behind rocks to try and get things under control.
desperately chugs the elixir and struggles out of this encounter with no dignity to spare. ]
[ the elixir actually turns dion into a medium dog-sized white frog
no, don't worry, dion will get encouragement on his journey!! there is snippets of memory as he runs from the lizalfos, a smattering of meetings between sidon and this very determined, very long-suffering hylian in his life, where he gets to be cheered on for his journey. yayyyy dion!
and then, as if no time has passed at all, he's back at a familiar sight: zora's domain.
it isn't a true memory; the domain is left beautiful, empty, and quiet besides the trickle of water.
there is the throne room, a statue of a young zora woman with a trident, and a large waterfall spilling off a nearby cliff. ]
[ blond to blond communication......... maybe dion could also use a little amnesia to escape the horrors of the past.
but that's not what's happening right now. instead, he can look around the domain. assuming he's going for the throne room—some figures fill in (up through 22:00), though all the signs of life fade back into mist and an empty room shortly after. me resorting to aoc cutscenes for this rp.
in any case, there's a last choice for him now as the soft, spirited blue light of the domain illuminates a few paths: he can leave the domain out towards the great spring, where the great vah ruta sits waiting in the water, or the other side of the bank, where there is an uncharacteristic amount of sunlight over a large waterfall. ]
[ the way i forgot you see dorephan out of his seat in aoc
dion watches this play out carefully, glancing back toward the statue as if to cement that the figure there and the mipha in the memory are on in the same before he walks over toward vah ruta, curious about the divine beast. ]
but okay cool, as he approaches vah ruta, he'll see all the lights along it are a sort of angry pink color instead of the blue as before. also, it is spewing out an entire sky's worth of rain from its mechanical trunk.
the scene shifts into memory again as the beast lets out a bellowing trumpet. this is just the pre-boss fight scene and he can experience how COOL link is during the fight.
with that boss battle starting, the great machine he's fighting now is...
It's name is Vah Ruta—a title in honor of a Zora Princess of old, made from technology just as ancient and beyond all modern comprehension. This towering beast was meant to stave off the apocalypse, one of four Divine Beasts, and instead it was—blighted. Corrupted and overtaken.
Now, it brings sorrow. Endless rain. Memories that scar your people, a century old yet so firmly rooted in their long-lived minds. Mipha, your beloved elder sister, died in the heart of this machine, and her soul, you expect, is trapped still within all that metal and wire and regret. Because Mipha was supposed to save Hyrule. And in that failure, both her and Vah Ruta are mired here—until either the Calamity returns and destroys Hyrule for good, or something forces their way inside and lodges her free.
Something, or rather, someone (cutscene up through 4:30:51). You and Link, the Hylian hero who your sister had once so loved, bring Ruta to kneel, adrenaline still soaring to even the tips of your fins. Everything buzzes in you. It is a fight against sheets of rain and raging water, a lamentable machine, ancient ice magic, and a Hylian sent way up into the air, armed with only arrows and his own strength of spirit. A hundred years have passed for this moment. Ruta seems to be a creature in and of itself, in pain, waiting to serve its true purpose and help this world. You cannot board it—that was a task for Mipha, and now one for Link—but.
The rain has finally stopped. The sky opens. Light dawns with it as Ruta raises its head. And you believe fully, with your whole, huge heart, that Link can do this. You haven't even the faintest shred of doubt in him. He is going to save your home, Vah Ruta, Zora's Domain—
And that means, someday soon, that Mipha may finally find some rest too. ]
—Dion!?
[ and now he's getting picked up out of the water in the very real caverns, the rift around them shrinking enough to return to the helly belly. ]
[ the scene is... fantastic. a storm of regret and hope as dion both experiences and watches it play out. it's unlike some of the other memories he's seen, ones sunk deep into tragedy and loss. he can feel the longing that sidon feels for his sister, the loss still an ache that pervades, much like the endless rain vah ruta sends down onto the domain.
but he can feel the love that sidon has for mipha as well, enduring and far more powerful than his grief. he can feel the absolute faith he feels in his friend, and the hope that persists despite a century of darkness.
he wants to see the battle to its end, but blinks in shock when he's returned to helly belly instead, looking up at sidon. ]
[ it's a fantastic battle. even just experiencing it again in memory, his heart races, the reminder of the upset waves that vah ruta made, the breathless anticipation every time link went soaring up a waterfall; the grief is there, always, but it the backdrop of something fantastically hopeful.
he smiles as he helps dion to his feet. ]
Not at all. It is a favorite memory of mine! I'm lucky to relive it. I should be apologizing to you, for sending you on such a journey.

You are right in that, Prince Sidon. Everyone here is more brilliant than I could've ever imagined... It does give hope.
